The EC550E excavator is the first 50-tonne machine from Volvo that has been developed from the ground up. The EC550E offers high productivity, reliability and low operating costs. The excavator is well equipped to handle a wide range of applications.

The cab offers plenty of space for the operator, who sits in an ergonomically designed seat with suspension and armrests as standard equipment. The adjustable seat ensures a comfortable position at all times, which improves safety and reduces operator fatigue. A large opening in the front of the cab provides excellent visibility to the working area and front attachment.

The Volvo EC550E excavator is a giant among machines. It offers impressive performance thanks to its Volvo D13 Tier 4 Final engine with 557 horsepower (415 kW), delivering high productivity and superior fuel efficiency. The powerful digging forces and excellent controllability give you the flexibility to tackle any job with ease. The hydraulic system is designed to work in harmony with the engine, while the advanced control system provides real-time feedback to ensure maximum productivity.

The EC550E is built to last, thanks to high-quality components and durable structures. A spacious cab offers plenty of room and all-around visibility, while the standard air suspension seat ensures that operators enjoy maximum comfort during long shifts.

Volvo Construction Equipment unveiled its new EC550E crawler excavator at the recent CONEXPO-CON/AGG show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Designed for high production, the 55-ton machine features a Tier 4 Final Volvo D13 diesel engine that cranks out up to 350 horsepower and delivers 8 percent more torque. The company says its ECO mode offers up to 10 percent better fuel efficiency than other models in its class.

The EC550E also features Volvo’s Care Cab for operator comfort, which includes a standard heated air suspension seat, climate control, an optional heated windscreen and an optional air ride seat.

Volvo says the cab can be tilted without restriction from the bottom of the lower frame for easy access when cleaning or doing maintenance. And it has a two-piece door that can be opened as wide as 90 degrees for even easier access to the cab and engine compartment.

The Volvo EC550E excavator has been designed to deliver a high level of productivity. Its class-leading power, performance and fuel efficiency make it the ideal choice for heavy duty applications such as mining or quarrying.

The Volvo EC550E is powered by a 13-litre engine providing a net output of 400kW. It has a bucket capacity of up to 5.1m³ and an operating weight of 55t.

The Volvo EC550E is equipped with features that lower operating costs, improve uptime and productivity, including:

Volvo Active Control – functions such as boom sway control, auto boom and stick control, automatic boom lowering during digging and automatic bucket compensation are standard features.

Volvo Care Cab – offers an extremely quiet, low vibration environment for enhanced operator comfort.

Volvo Co-Pilot – intuitive multifunctional joysticks offer simple fingertip control of all machine functions.

The Volvo Excavator EC550E is built to keep you safe, as well as others on the jobsite. New safety features improve visibility and make it easier for the operator to stay alert while working. The Volvo Care Cab offers a spacious interior with a wide entrance and excellent all-round visibility. The cab’s isolated design and noise-reducing materials provide a quiet and comfortable working environment.

For greater safety, an automatic engine shutdown system automatically switches off the engine when the operator leaves their seat with the control lever in travel position or when an emergency stop has been activated.

The Volvo EC550E crawler excavator is a new design that uses a lower-emissions Tier 4 Final Volvo D13 engine. This engine reduces fuel consumption by up to 20 percent, so it’s an environmentally friendly and cost-efficient machine.

The Volvo EC550E features a factory-installed Trimble L1 GPS receiver. The receiver and the Trimble GCS900 Grade Control System enable you to do dozer work in 2D and 3D, use guidance for off-line excavation, place materials with pinpoint accuracy for stockpile management, and control elevations for fine grading.

The Volvo EC550E has a new hydraulic system that runs at lower pressure to deliver higher productivity and better fuel economy. The hydraulic boom regeneration valve lowers boom kickback, so the operator gets better control.

The machine offers the choice of two cabs: a standard cab and a deluxe cab with air conditioning. Both cabs are ROPS/FOPS Level II certified with safety glass windows and front-and rear wipers.
