Volvo EW220E Excavator Boom, arm and bucket rotation

The EW220E is a conventional tail swing excavator. This means that when the boom swings, the counterweight swings behind the machine’s tracks. The EW220E is designed to work in confined work sites where front end swing would not be possible.

The Volvo EW220E features an efficient and reliable Tier 3 compliant diesel engine delivering 166 horsepower (123 kW) which complies with current emissions standards.

The boom and arm on the Volvo EW220E are made of high tensile strength steel. This produces a stiff structure for less deflection and greater strength.

The Volvo EW220E offers the industry’s most advanced rotation system, featuring advanced hydraulics and components to produce excellent speed, power, smoothness and control. A unique planetary gear design provides excellent durability and long life.

The Volvo EW220E is a medium-range excavator, which is ideal for construction, infrastructure and utilities work. The EW220E serves as the base model for the EW220E HR (high reach) and EWR220E (recycling) models. The high reach version can go up to 19 m (62 ft 4 in) while the recycling model will have a heavier boom and arm plus additional guarding to protect the machine from flying debris.

The EW220E has a maximum dig depth of 7 m (23 ft), and a bucket digging force of 154 kN (34,632 lbf). Its engine power is 99 kW (133 hp). The machine weighs 21 tn. Its recommended operating weight is 18 tn.

Volvo EW220E Excavator Advanced multi-function display

The Volvo EW220E wheeled excavator is based on a simple, straightforward design. It is easy to operate and service.

The Volvo EW220E wheeled excavator provides the operator with improved visibility and more productive performance. The spacious cab provides a relaxed working environment with excellent visibility, climate control and ergonomic controls. This provides more comfort and less fatigue for the operator.

The advanced multi-function display gives you information about all machine functions.

Volvo EW220E Excavator Good operator comfort and visibility

The Volvo EW220E is a 22-tonne wheeled excavator with a Volvo D6E Tier 4 Final engine. The machine has a Volvo Care Cab, with features such as a low noise level, wide windows for all-round visibility, a heated and ventilated air suspension seat, sloping hood, rear-view camera and an ergonomic control panel. The cab has been designed to reduce vibration levels, offering more comfort to the operator. The Volvo EW220E is available with two boom variants, standard and long reach. The standard boom is 8.76 m and the long reach boom is 10.0 m long. The standard boom has two models of stick – 3.27 m (10’8”) and 3.7m (12’1”), while the long reach boom comes with three – 2.9m (9’6”), 3.27 m (10’8”) and 3.7 m (12’1”).

Volvo EW220E Excavator Low service costs

The Volvo EW220E short-radius excavator is designed to meet the needs of urban construction and general contracting. The machine features a Tier 4 Final/Stage IV Volvo D4 engine with an electronically controlled swing motor that provides more hydraulic power at lower engine speeds, reducing fuel consumption by as much as 20 percent compared with previous models.

It comes standard with a combined automatic cooling system that maintains the engine temperature regardless of ambient conditions, even in extreme weather. A state-of-the-art load-sensing hydraulic system provides power where needed and reduces fuel consumption by up to 30 percent compared with conventional digging systems, the company says.

The EW220E’s cab features a spacious design, comfortable seats and ergonomic controls for maximum operator comfort and productivity. A host of options make it easy to customize the machine for specific applications; for example, customers can add work lights and rearview cameras to improve operator visibility. Other options include air conditioning, air suspension seats and Bluetooth radio.

Volvo EW220E Excavator

The Volvo EW220E excavator is good for hard rock tunneling

Volvo Construction Equipment has introduced a new series of excavators, the EW220E, for hard rock tunneling applications.

The new Volvo EW220E is designed for high-productivity tunneling in hard rock conditions, with a powerful Volvo engine, large digging forces and an intelligent hydraulic system that enable the machine to deliver excellent excavation efficiency and fuel economy.

A key feature of the new machine is its Volvo Tier 4 Final engine. Mated with an electronically controlled high-pressure common rail fuel injection system, the 6-cylinder engine produces up to 183 hp (136 kW). The turbocharged and air-to-air aftercooled powerplant employs a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions while maintaining high fuel efficiency.
